25 Years of Ministry Between the Rivers
The Diocese of Tennessee was admitted into The Episcopal Church in 1829 at the General Convention in Philadelphia, PA. The first Diocesan Convention was held in July 1829 in Nashville.
The General Convention in New Orleans in 1982 authorized the division of the Diocese of Tennessee into three Dioceses. Calvary is one of 34 congregations that make up the Diocese of West Tennessee, 21 counties between the Tennessee and Mississippi Rivers.
The third Bishop of West Tennessee, the Rt. Rev. Don E. Johnson, was consecrated on June 30, 2001, succeeding the Rt. Rev. James M. Coleman. Calvary participates in the life of the Diocese through financial support and involvement in diocesan committees and events.
News of the Diocese is published monthly in the Church News. The Diocesan web site contains a directory of parishes, the diocesan calendar, and a detailed description of the various diocesan ministries.
