The Public Schools Ministries initiative provides support for two Memphis City Public Schools (Carnes Elementary and Grizzlies Academy) through tutoring, book and backpack drives, faculty appreciation events, and shared dinners.
Volunteers are needed to tutor at Carnes Elementary on weekdays during school hours. Activities include reading to kindergartners and tutoring in beginning reading, writing, and math.

- 8:30-10:00 a.m. 1st-5th Grade Reading Block

Grizzlies Academy High School
Grizzlies Academy is not an ordinary school. It is a school for students between the ages of 15 and 17 who are at least two years behind in school. The Grizzlies Academy offers an accelerated graduation program so that students can catch up and graduate in three years. In order to have a successful accelerated graduation program, one-on-one tutoring is offered to each student in all subject areas.
Tutoring sessions for students will be held this year on Mondays and Thursdays, from 4:00-5:30 p.m., and on Saturdays between the hours of 9:00 and 12:00. Tutors are needed to improve skills in reading, math, and science. Materials will be provided to use in tutoring.
To volunteer as a tutor, please contact Susanne Darnell.
The first Monday of every month, Calvary sponsors a dinner at the Grizzlies Academy. Students learn valuable social, cooking, and customer service skills at these dinners. Volunteers are needed from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. for these events.
To volunteer to cook dinner, contact Marjorie Webster.
Grizzlies Academy is located on the south-east corner of the Calvary block.
