Whether centered on support, fellowship, service or spirituality, the following opportunities bring people further into community with one another and allow them to share their time, talent, and treasure. Koinonia, Calvary’s Wednesday evening program, continues on Wednesday, September 1, with dinner, worship, adult classes, Grief Support Group, EfM, and Calvary Ringers, Children’s Choir, and Parish Choir Rehearsals.
Foyer Groups, made up of 8-12 people, meet monthly for dinner from September through May. Most Foyer Group gatherings are potluck dinners. Sometimes groups meet at restaurants or go to events like a Redbirds Game. Foyer Groups consist of adults of all ages, single or coupled. Sign up to participate in a 2010-2011 Foyer Group.
Coffee in the Great Hall- Come enjoy refreshments and fellowship in the Great Hall following the 11:15 a.m. service. To sign up to host a Coffee in the Great Hall, contact Ebet Peeples.
Labor Day Weekend Organ Concert- Come as you are to Calvary on Sunday, September 5, at 4:00 p.m., to hear an organ concert by Sumner Jenkins. Works by composers César Franck, Maurice Duruflé, Jehan Alain, Marcel Dupré and Jean Langlais will be presented. These composers represent organ composition from the mid-19th century through the mid-20th century.
Recover Repertory Theater- Everyone touched by recovery is invited to continue a tradition with the Addiction and Recovery Commission for a performance by the Recovery Repertory Theater on Friday, September 10, at 7:00 p.m. at Grace-St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. A reception will follow to honor the cast and allow the audience to meet the stars of the evening. The event is free and open to the public.
Calvary parishioners care deeply for one another. Learn more about opportunities to pray for one another (today's prayers and DOK), to serve on Care Teams, and to give aid to those who are nearing the end of their lives through the Emmaus Ministry.

A new Grief Support Group begins Wednesday, September 8.
The group will meet each Wednesday night, 6:30-8:00,
through October 20 in the library at Calvary
Church. This group offers a confidential and
supportive place for anyone who has lost a spouse,
parent or other loved one. Participants should be
prepared to attend the entire series. If you have any

Education for Ministry, a four year class that meets from September to May, covers the Old Testament,
New Testament, church history through the eighteenth
century, and modern theology and philosophy. For

“Gather at the River,” a weekend symposium created
by “a group of caring people of faith who cherish the
Mississippi River as a sacred trust and want to equip each
of us to address the issues challenging the river,” will be
held September 24-25 at BRIDGES Center, 477 N. Fifth
Street.
Come be inspired and spiritually fed at this faith-based
initiative, sponsored in part by The Diocese of West
Tennessee. Speakers will include John M. Barry, Ellen
Bernstein, Michael Reuter, Rosanna Cappellato and the
Rev. Fletcher Harper. Attendees will leave equipped with
people and ideas for partnerships in environmental efforts,
10 things you can do to protect the Mississippi River,
how to organize green efforts within your faith-based
organization, Sunday School curriculum, fellowship with
colleagues, and tools and information on how to protect
the river in the context of our faith. Groups are welcome;

Silent Retreat Weekend for Women-
The next silent retreat weekend for women will be
October 22-24 at St. Columba Conference Center in
Bartlett, TN. To register or for more information,
contact Debbie Balling.
Yarn Collection- Church Women United is collecting
yarn for their prison knitting ministry. Yarn of any color,
any texture, and in any amount (even left-overs) will
be appreciated. Place your yarn in the basket under
the community service bulletin board in the second
floor hallway. Elizabeth Madden will deliver the yarn
to the prison knitting ministry coordinator. Thanks to
each one of you for your generosity!
The 21st annual Memphis Walks for the Homeless event
will be held the morning of Saturday, October 2. Volunteers
are needed to work The Hospitality HUB’s information
table and to participate in the walk. Donations for the
walk are also being accepted.
Collect Box Tops for Education for Carnes Elementary School. Each returned box top provides the school with 10 cents. A collection bin is located near the Community Service bulletin board outside the Calvary Library.

The Hospitality Hub, a ministry to connect homeless people with the resources they need to begin their journey out of homelessness, welcomes new volunteers. To learn more about volunteering at the Hub, please contact David Figiel.
The Hospitality Hub has a number of needs including: reading glasses, books, magazines, books of stamps, Walgreen's (800 minute) long-distance calling cards, MATA bus passes, Office Depot gift cards, large unopened cans of coffee, large unopened bags of sugar, large unopened bottles of pine cleaner or bleach, plain white business envelopes, large pump bottles of hand sanitizer, and 8x10 black- or clear-edged picture frames. Donations may left in the Hub collection bin on the second floor near the Calvary Library.
The Community Breakfast Ministry is collecting blue jeans, sleeping bags, lotion, razors, toothbrushes, t-shirts, socks, belts, backpacks, and anything else men might need, to distribute on Sunday mornings. Donations may be left in the blue clothes bin on the first floor at the bottom of the main stairwell. MIFA is happy to receive women's and children's clothing.

The Altar Guild of Calvary is looking for new people interested in
preparing the altar and sanctuary for all Sunday, weekday, and special services, including weddings and funerals. Contact Gayle Spence for more information.

Children's Chapel Volunteers are needed to help escort children to and from Children’s Chapel and to help lead the Children’s Chapel services. A member of the Calvary clergy and song leader Brie Wallace are on hand to lead various parts of the service as well. You don’t have to be a parent to get involved. Volunteers serve on a rotation one Sunday every couple of months. To learn more about this rewarding volunteer opportunity, contact Heather Anderson.
Wednesday Morning Eucharist- If you've had to miss Sunday services in your spiritual home or are just looking for a chance to stay connected with your spiritual foundation during the week, please come and worship at Calvary this Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. Free parking is available in the Calvary lot at Adams and Third. After the service, coffee will be served in the Crump Parlor.
Wedding Altar Guild Team- The Altar Guild Team that coordinates weddings at Calvary is expanding and looking for people who would like to be trained. If you would like to learn more about helping during wedding rehearsals and weddings, please contact Ebet Peeples.
Homemade baked bread is served during the 10:00 a.m. Eucharist on Sunday mornings. There are a number of openings for bread bakers on the calendar. Please contact Debbie Balling if you would like to bake bread for a service. View recipe.
