Concert Series

 

Wednesdays, October 21 - December 9

Great musicians and great chefs are a Memphis tradition. Calvary & the Arts celebrates this tradition with free concerts each Wednesday at noon, October 21-December 9. Join us each week for a unique musical experience, offered in loving memory of Dottie Jones.

Concerts last approximately 45-50 minutes and are followed by lunch ($7.00) cooked by some of downtown Memphis's greatest chefs.

Kallen Esperian

October 21 - Kallen Esperian

Calvary & the Arts is pleased to open its 31st season with Kallen Esperian. Ms. Esperian once again graces our stage with poise and elegance. Her presence and voice move the music from simple notes on a page to an experience that transcends time. Come early since her performances are often standing room only. Mac Edwards will be preparing his famous Grits and Grillades for your dining pleasure following the concert

Joyce is a Jazz Diva with a Memphis Soul, and there’s no doubt about it. Joyce returns to the C&tA stage with her own blend of soul, blues and jazz. She has brought her own Memphis style to clubs near and far. Let her soul get your fingers snapping and your feet tapping. Come downstairs for Chef Bill Webster’s Chicken Marsala, food for your soul.

 

 

Planet Reel

 

November 4 - Planet Reel

Planet Reel is a staple of the Memphis Celtic music scene. Drawing on both ancient and modern music, this exceptional group blends traditional folk and Celtic music to soothe and exhilarate the soul. Join MSO Concertmaster Susanna Perry Gilmore, Barry Gilmore, John Albertson, Josh Culley and Robert Johnson. Calvary's Kitchen completes this Celtic fest with a lunch of Corned Beef and Cabbage.

 

 

 

Memphis Jazz BandNovember 11 - Memphis Jazz Band Salutes Veterans Day

The MJO returns for their second C&tA appearance, this year for our Veterans Day tribute. No music could be more appropriate to honor our veterans than the big band sound of this Memphis ensemble. Come help us honor the men and women of our armed forces. There is nothing more American than BBQ, and no more famous Memphis BBQ than The Rendezvous.

 

Kelley Hurt

November 18 - The Kelley Hurt Quartet

“One of the brightest young stars on the Memphis jazz scene” – Memphis Magazine. With her sultry repertoire of jazz and R&B, Kelley Hurt has become one of the Mid-South's most popular entertainers. Fresh and confident, naturally at ease with an audience, Kelley is a charming singer who can melt you with a ballad then scorch you with a bluesy rocker. Kelley’s varied schedule has included everything from intimate rooftop parties at The Madison Hotel to a European tour with Bruce Willis and the Accelerators. Calvary offers its famous Waffle Shop-style spaghetti. Enjoy this treat outside of Lent!

December 2 - The Rhodes Singers

Rhodes Singers

The Rhodes Singers kick off the Christmas season with their signature style and blend. This choir, which tours internationally, welcomes Dr. William Skoog as its new conductor. Dr. Skoog comes to Rhodes from Bowling Green State University. Ring in the season with these gifted young singers who bring you favorites new and old.  Bill Webster and his crew serve Chicken Tetrazzini for lunch following this world class concert

 

James Feddeck of MSODecember 9 - "Christmas POPS"

There is no more appropriate way to close this anniversary season than with the annual “Christmas Pops” concert. In our continuing Christmas tradition, Cleveland Orchestra Associate Conductor James Feddeck brings us music of the season. Highlights include The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and The Arabian Dance from Nutcracker Suite by Pyotr Il’yich Tchaikovsky and a carol sing. Round out this year’s season with one of Calvary’s most wonderful offerings, its food.
